Description: New York City homicide detectives Artemis Gregory and Rachel Wayland are first on the murder scene of a beautiful young gay man, the third victim of a serial killer dubbed the Moon Killer by the department. Their investigation leads them to Talis Kehk, charismatic lead singer of the rock group Phoenix Rising. As the next full moon approaches, Artemis and his partner uncover clues that lead straight to Talis—even as Talis, exhibiting behavior Artemis finds strange indeed considering the circumstances, uses every means possible to keep Artemis close.
Artemis could never fall in love with a murderer, could he? Innocent or not, Talis has a secret… and it’s about to change Artemis’s world forever.
Review: Artemis is a hard-as-nails New York cop working with his partner, Rachel, to solve murders of young gay men around the city. Talis Kehk is a lead singer to the band Phoenix Rising but has to keep the secret that he is the real phoenix.
From previous posts you may know I'm not a huge fan of sex with others after the love interests have met. I like my monogamy. But in this book the sex with another is needed and justified, even if it wasn't my favorite part of the book.
Even with the book treading on one of my pet-peeves I still found myself enjoying the story and the writing immensely. As a powerful writer, Theo Fenraven instantly pulls us into the dark world of being a New York cop. But he also writes the lighter side of being a Phoenix even though Talis has to do terrible things to survive.
Artemis and Talis are so different that at one point I actually worried that the love story would be unbelievable. But this was not the case at all. The two maybe different but Talis' weakness is only strengthened through Artimis. I soon found myself cheering for the heroes as they start working together to find love.
I hope to see more paranormal stories from Theo Fenraven (hint hint). He had indepth knowledge of the mythology of the phoenix. I recommend reading Phoenix Rising if you like an edgy fantasy with two men who are destined to change the world.
